Disaster Recovery Planning (DR)
A component of BCP, DR addresses the technical side of business recovery and focuses on Information Technology (IT) resources. DR also involves “baking-in” resilience at the system design phase.
Don't Recovery Everything
Most IT managers plan (or hope) to recovery everything as quickly as possible. This is a strategic error.
The most prudent thing to do is to recover only what the business needs, when it needs it. Your business impact analysis (BIA) should prioritize the systems and data you need, and most importantly, tell you when you need them.
Of course, the immediate recovery of some key IT infrastructure is a given. The management-approved recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) in your BIA will help you document the business case you need to make the investments you have been asking for.
