Incident Management (IM) or Crisis Management (CMT)

A structured, coordinated response to events that have a negative effect on the business. It is more of a process than a plan and can be best characterized as the “how” of recovery, as opposed to the “what” of recovery. It relies heavily on the training of the team members.

Incident Management Team (IMT) or Crisis Management Team (CMT)

A group of individuals, representing various levels and functions within an organization, that is responsible for the coordinated response to any major incident that affects the organization or its stakeholders.

This team will oversee recovery operations. They do not make ad-hoc decisions on the fly, but ensure the plan is followed and only make decisions that are not already made within business continuity or disaster recovery plans. They may decide to deviate from the plans, but only under extraordinary circumstances.
